Women's Fashion

Fashion is different all around the world it helps us define who we are and our history. Women’s traditional clothing from many countries help them identify themselves in many different ways. Japanese, Brazilian and Indian fashion our extremely identifiable from the second you see them because of their unique characteristics.

Japanese fashion is one of the most identifiable pieces of fashion in the world because of the signature kimono. The kimono is the traditional clothing of the japanese culture. Kimonos are wrapped around the body in multiple layers tied together with sashes. Many different accessories are also worn with the kimono like sandals and hair items. There are a lot of different types of kimono like the shiromoku, yukata and mofuku which are all worn for different types of occasions like weddings, funerals and everyday wear. Although the kimono is the traditional wear of the japanese, their fashion has been deeply influenced by western fashion. The first time western clothing took a big influence was when officers were offered to wear them in the army and navy, it then moved on to being the dress regulations for many schools throughout Japan. After World War 2 western clothing was adopted by many as a symbol of dignity and progressiveness and is still worn by most of the population. Women now mostly wear western clothing unless their at a special occasion like a wedding where they will wear the traditional kimono. The japanese have made their mark on the map because of their fashion and that’s why they’re one of the most identifiable cultures in the world.

Brazilian fashion is recognized throughout the world because of it’s extravagant dresses and costumes during the annual El Carnaval. El Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro holds the world record for the largest carnival in the world with millions of people each day. Samba schools gather in hundreds and thousands to be part of the carnival and dance. More importantly people pay hundreds of dollars to buy massive and extravagant dresses and costumes to wear while samba dancing in the parade. As you can see in the picture above the costumes are full of colours especially green, yellow, blue, purple and pink. The dresses aren’t very long because they need to be able to dance in them but surprisingly they are usually accompanied with massive high heels about 6 inches high. The dresses are often full of glitter and diamonds and are accompanied with a massive headdress full of feathers. The dresses often show off the women breasts and at night a lot of them don’t wear tops. Many of the dresses are in a bikini style to show off the women’s stomachs while they dance the night away. El Carnaval is a place that put Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on the map because of the fashion of the carnival.

Indian Fashion is well known around the world for it’s beauty and history. Traditional clothing in India is different in in different regions of India. The two main traditional clothing are sari and ghagra choli. The sari is worn across South Asia especially in Nepal and India as a traditional garment and is associated with grace. The sari consists of a long drape about 6 feet long and is wrapped around the waist with one end over the shoulder. The colours vary but are mostly red white and gold. The ghagra choli is worn throughout most of India and some Hindi speaking parts of Nepal. The ghagra choli is made out of 3 parts the choli, the lehenga and the dupatta. The choli is a type of tight blouse that has short sleeves and is usually cropped to be able to stay cool during the summers. The lehenga is a long skirt usually embroidered tied at the waist with a sash. It goes down to the women’ ankles to be able to show off there jeweled sandals that show off their marital status. The last part is the dupatta, the dupatta is the headdress of the clothing. It is a large scarf worn around the head and used to be the most decorative part of the ghagra choli. The bindi is the small red dot worn on the forehead of the hindu people. There are different types of bindi but most of the time the bindi is worn to show that the women is married. Indian fashion is often accompanied with a lot of accessories especially jewels. Indian women own 11% of the world’s gold that’s a lot of gold owned by one culture. All these things make indian fashion one of the most known fashion in the world.

 

In conclusion, fashion is one of the most eye capturing things in the world  because of it’s ability to capture small details. Some cultures show off their fashion a lot like Japan, Brazil and India because of their unique characteristics that set them apart.
