Inuits are First Nation people that have lived in the north of Canada for hundreds of years. Living in the north forces them to adapt in more ways than one because they had to adapt their architecture, their way of life and most importantly their fashion. It,s extremely cold in the north of Canada so they have to find material that protects them from the cold. As you can seen in the pictures their clothing is mostly made out of fur and skin from the animals that they kill. The Inuits use everything that is accessible to them so when they kill an animal they don’t only take the meat they take the bones to make jewellery and the skin and fur to make clothing. They even make the string out of small strands of skin from the animals. The new generation of Inuits will usually wear this type of fashion to show the accomplishments of their ancestors and to show their pride in their culture. Inuit fashion is made out of four parts. The first part is the amauti which is a coat made out of fur that is worn in different amount of layers depending on the months and seasons. The second part are trousers made out of fur and animal skin that like the amauti is worn in different amount of layers depending on the seasons. The third part is the gloves that are made out leather to grip onto stuff and fur to keep warm. The final part are the boots that are made out of seal and caribou and are extremely warm. All these things make Inuit fashion unique and special and that is why we put it in this website.
